DISCLAIMER : This is not about MATLAB installation issues
I have been using MATLAB R2013 a for a little while because I have to analyse some signal characteristics for my final year thesis. And suddenly out of nowhere it began to not start on my Windows 8 desktop. After few unsuccesfull attempts I have found a solution to overcome this issue.

Solution
In the log it says a problem in JRE. but Reinsatalling Java wont fix the problem. Problem lies in the MATLAB app data folder.
Go to
C:\Users\kapal\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2013a
find
MATLAB_Editor_State.xml
Delete it. :) Worked for me.
